Shadowbox Display

Shadowbox Sketch

Shadow Box Reflective

Although model diversity has been improving over the years, it is still far from where it should be. One designer who showcased his collection using models of all sizes, shapes, colors, and sexualities was Christian Siriano. This shadowbox display was created to boost awareness of the necessity of model diversity.

The focal point of this display is the “Christian Siriano Runway 2018 Celebrates Diversity” sign in the back. We placed the sign a little bit high (but not too high), so people who want to see what it says will be drawn in. We achieved optical balance by placing the models and little fact signs in alternating positions. We also placed audience members on both sides of the box, adding symmetry. We thought having the runway bend across the box would provide a fun use of line, opposed to the ordinary straight runway. We wanted the color red to be very prominent (as it was in Christian Siriano’s show), so we used it to cover the runway and act as the back draping. The textures in the display are shiny and smooth.

The most creative elements of the layout are definitely the runway and the models. We arched the runway so it was higher in the back and lower in the front, adding visual dimension. Having the little models strutting down the runway brought it to life.
